Italian garden

We were told that previously plants had not grown well and we soon discovered that the problem was lack of drainage – the sub-soil was compacted builders' rubble. The designer turned a problem into a solution and created a central raised lawn area with a drainage system running underneath.

To define the boundaries of the garden we were asked to plant mature yew hedges. We created a formal lawn framed by box hedges planted in a serpentine pattern, broken up by a mix of roses and perennial flowering plants. The structural details include areas of natural stone paving and intricate brickwork pathways. We also sourced and installed the seating, planters and pots which provide focal points.
